The Khmer Curriculum provided at SHINE follows the curriculum designed by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports so that students can participate in the national exams. The goal of our Khmer Education Programme (KEP) is to provide high quality education to students of kindergarten 1-3, the primary levels grades 1-6, the lower secondary levels 7-9, and the upper secondary levels 10-12. Our objective is to provide a high standard of Khmer through creative teaching techniques and qualified trained teachers.
Kindergarten 1-3
Kindergarten years are very important for young children as they are prepared to enter primary school. The Khmer curriculum for these students focuses on the introduction of the Khmer language by engaging students in the sounds of the Khmer consonants and vowels. The aim is that students get familiar with writing, listening and especially speaking Khmer to support basic conversations. At this level they are also introduced to basic math principles like numeracy.
Year 1-6 Learners
For the primary levels grades 1-6 we will offer the necessary subjects that are prescribe by the ministry for each year. Students will gain extensive knowledge in Khmer Language by mastering the correct pronunciation of the Khmer sounds, blending, reading and writing. The other subjects that students will follow are Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. All these subjects will be conducted in Khmer by professional and specialized teachers. By exploring mathematical concepts like geometry and measurement students create logical solutions for complex problems. Science concentrates on explaining action and reaction while Social Studies tackle daily living and morality questions. Also Khmer culture is an important factor that is included in our Khmer Curriculum.
Year 7-9 Learners
For the lower secondary Grades 7-9. The curriculum is well-rounded and includes Khmer Literature, Math, Biology & Earth Science, Civics & Home Economics, Physics & Chemistry, ICT, Physical Education, and History & Geography. All these subjects are conducted in Khmer by professional and specialized teachers. The students are taught for each subject by a teacher that has an extensive knowledge of it.
Year 10-12 Learners
For the upper secondary education:
Students extend their depth of knowledge and develop the skills they will need for more specialised study. These school years are considered as a critical period for attracting students into future science-related majors and careers.
Subjects are Khmer Literature, Mathematics, Foreign Language, Physical Education and Sports, Science (Physics, Earth-Environmental Science, Chemistry, and Biology), Social Studies (History, Geography, Moral-Civics, and Home Economics), ICT, and Health Education.

After having completed this education level, learners will have developed:

Acquire solid basic knowledge of Khmer Literature, Sciences, Social Science, Mathematics, physic health and moral ethics.
Construct solid basic knowledge of Science, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Foreign Languages.

Construct solid and broader basic skills in Khmer Literature (comparing, explaining, analyzing, interpreting and solving problems).
Construct solid and broader basis skills in Mathematics (calculating, comparing, explaining, analyzing, interpreting and solving problems).
Apply basic knowledge of science and information and Communications Technologies (ICT)
Apply basic skills in critical thinking and problem-solving in the study and society.
Acquire solid and broader skills of communication in the study and society.
Construct and apply skills in health prevention and primary health care.
Develop and make use of the knowledge, skills and ethics to protect and enhance the good deeds.

SHINE’s Khmer Education Programme started on the 1st October with the start of the academic year 2016-2017. It is a daily 4 hour programme. Student will be placed in a certain grade depending on a placement test and the report and result of the previous Khmer school. We follow the policy of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports so that students have the possibility to switch from any public or private school to SHINE.
